Based in Perrysville, Ohio Cowen Racing has a 30 year family racing tradition begininning with Bob Cowen who raced late model stock cars on dirt tracks throughout the mid-west.
Tim Cowen, the 2002 SCCA GT-1 National Champion will make his first Nascar Craftsman Truck Series start at Martinsville, Virginia in 2007. Cowen will also participate in the Craftsman Truck Series Ohio 250 at Mansfield Motorsports Park. On May 25-26, "I am looking forward to racing at Martinsville and Mansfield and competing in the Craftsman Truck series," Cowen remarked. "I have always wanted to have the chance to complete in the series and to be able to compete locally at Mansfield. It will be exciting for our team."
In 2006 Cowen Racing made the transition from Road Racing in the TransAm series to Short Track Oval Racing in the Nascar Busch East Series (BES). Nascar BES cars are similar to those used on the NASCAR Busch Series. They are powered by 350 to 358 cubic-inch V-8 engines with maximum compression ratio of 12:1. Both 105 - and 110 inch wheelbase cars are allowed, with a minimum weight of 3,300 pounds. They are equipped with Goodyear blas-ply tires. Cowen ran a partial schedule in 2006 with 4 starts and finished 30th in points.
The Busch East Series, formally known as the Busch North Series, was formed in 1987 and has traditionally competed at tracks throughout the East Coast. The series has expanded this year with events in South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Iowa, Minnesota, and Ohio. Notable Busch East Series graduates include drivers Martin Truex Jr., Ricky Craven, along with crew chiefs Frank Stoddard, Richard "Slugger" Labbe and Greg Zipadelli.
The Cowen Racing Team will compete in four Busch East Series events in 2007 beginning April 28th at Greenville, South Carolina. Events at the New Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on May 20th, Nashville, TN on July 22nd and in Mansfield, Ohio on August 25th to round out the 2007 racing season.
